Seagate Constellation ES 2 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM SATA HDD

Enterprise 2 TB SATA drive

The Seagate Constellation ES is a 2 TB hard drive built for continuous operation in servers and storage arrays. Its 7200 RPM spindle speed and 64 MB cache support sustained read and write workloads typical of cloud and nearline environments. The 3.5 inch form factor fits standard drive bays in rackmount and tower chassis.

SATA III practical limits

The SATA III interface caps throughput at 6 Gbps, so sustained transfer rates cannot exceed that ceiling regardless of spindle speed. Hot plug and hot swap support let you replace drives without powering down the enclosure, but the controller and backplane must also implement the feature. Cable length and signal quality impose additional real-world constraints on reliability.

7200 RPM rotational speed

Rotational speed of 7200 RPM determines the drive's baseline latency and maximum sustained throughput, making it the key figure when matching performance to workload. Buyers who need lower latency or higher IOPS for transactional databases should consider drives with faster spindle speeds or solid-state alternatives.
