300 GB 10K SAS drive with tray

This new 2.5 inch SAS hard drive delivers 300 GB of storage at 10 000 RPM with a 64 MB buffer. It ships with an IBM System X caddy for direct installation in compatible bays. The 6 Gb/s interface supports enterprise workloads. Zero power-on hours confirm factory-fresh condition.

Server builders needing 2.5 SAS

This drive suits administrators replacing failed disks in IBM System X arrays or expanding capacity in 2.5 inch SAS backplanes. Buyers requiring a different interface protocol, higher capacity, or a 3.5 inch form factor should look at other models. The included tray fits only System X drive bays.

6 Gb/s SAS interface decides fit

The single specification that determines compatibility is the 2.5 inch SAS 6 Gb/s interface. Controllers and backplanes must support this exact signalling rate and physical connector. Verify the host system accepts 6 Gb/s SAS drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

What does the 6Gb/s SAS interface limit in real use?

The 6Gb/s SAS interface limits the maximum data transfer rate to the link speed, which is below the mechanical ceiling of the 10000RPM platters.

What physical space and mounting does the 2.5in SAS drive require?

It fits a standard 2.5in drive bay and ships with the IBM System X caddy and tray for direct mounting in compatible servers.

How is the drive installed and what step is often missed?

Mount the drive into the supplied caddy, secure the screws, then slide the assembly into the hot-swap bay until it clicks; forgetting to fully seat the caddy prevents the SAS connector from engaging.
