Enterprise storage drive

The Seagate Exos 2X14 is a 14 TB internal hard drive built for storage systems and video surveillance workloads. Its SAS interface and 7200 rpm spindle speed suit environments that demand sustained throughput.

SAS connectivity and hot-plug design

The drive uses a 12Gb/s SAS interface and a 3.5 inch form factor with hot-pluggable support. A 256 MB buffer helps smooth burst workloads while the 4Kn disk format aligns with modern enterprise controllers.

Interface and format constraints

The 12Gb/s SAS link sets the peak bus bandwidth for the device. Systems must provide a compatible SAS backplane and controller to reach that rate. The 4Kn sector format requires operating system and RAID controller support for 4 KB native sectors.

Questions about this item

What throughput does the 12Gb/s SAS interface actually deliver?

The 12Gb/s SAS link provides up to 12 Gbit/s per port; dual-port operation on the Exos 2X14 allows simultaneous paths for failover or load balancing.

Will the 3.5" 1" high drive fit my server bay and caddy?

The unit measures 4" wide by 5.8" deep by 1" high and weighs 1.51 lb, matching the standard 3.5" form factor used in most hot-plug bays.

How do I install the drive in a hot-plug chassis and what step is often missed?

Slide the drive into the bay until the SAS connector seats firmly; the common mistake is not pushing far enough to engage the hot-plug latch.
