  • SAS 6.0 Gb/s interface for reliable enterprise connectivity
  • 5 inch form factor fits standard drive bays

Seagate Constellation ES.3 2TB SAS Drive

This Seagate Constellation ES.3 drive delivers 2TB of storage on a 3.5-inch form factor. It spins at 7200RPM with a 128MB cache and connects through a SAS 6.0Gb/s interface. The unit is sold new without cables or manuals.

Suited for SAS-only servers and arrays

The SAS interface suits servers, RAID arrays and storage appliances that require dual-port connectivity. Systems with only SATA ports cannot use this drive. Buyers needing a SATA connection or external enclosure support should look at other models.

Sustained throughput on 7200RPM platters

Under continuous workloads the 7200RPM spindle and 128MB cache maintain steady data rates for sequential reads and writes. The SAS 6.0Gb/s link handles sustained queues without the latency spikes seen in burst-only benchmarks. Firmware 0004 provides stable operation during extended duty cycles.

Questions about this item

What host-bus adapter or controller card do I need to connect the SAS 6.0Gb/s interface?

You need a SAS host-bus adapter or RAID controller with a SAS 6.0Gb/s port; a standard SATA controller will not recognise the drive.

Will the 3.5" form factor and SAS interface let me mix this drive with older SATA drives in the same chassis?

The drive fits a standard 3.5" bay, but it requires a SAS backplane or HBA; it cannot plug directly into SATA ports used by older drives.

How can I confirm the 128MB cache and 7200RPM speed are active after installation?

Check the drive’s reported cache size and rotation rate in your OS disk utility or the HBA BIOS; both should show 128MB cache and 7200RPM.
