Product identity and target user

The Seagate Exos 7E8 ST2000NM0045 is a 2TB 3.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 7200RPM with a 128MB cache and a SAS 12.0Gb/s interface. It is built for servers and storage arrays that require enterprise-class reliability and the dual-port SAS protocol. The drive uses firmware BK82 and carries part number 1V4204-037.

Who this suits and who it does not

This drive fits administrators upgrading or expanding SAS-based RAID enclosures, JBOD shelves or backup appliances that accept 3.5-inch SAS disks. It is not for buyers whose systems only provide SATA ports, because the SAS connector is physically and electrically incompatible with standard desktop or laptop SATA controllers. It also does not suit users who need a 2.5-inch form factor for dense blade servers.

Deciding specification

The SAS 12.0Gb/s interface is the single specification that determines compatibility; the drive will only operate in a backplane or controller that supports 12.0Gb/s SAS signalling.
