Silver 3.5 inch SAS hard drive bare unit

Seagate

Seagate ST3146356SS 146GB 15000RPM SAS 3.5in internal hard drive

SKU CH-TZWE-YXAAE

A 146 GB, 15,000 RPM SAS internal hard drive with 16 MB cache for high-performance servers

  • 15,000 RPM rotation cuts latency for transaction-heavy workloads
  • 146 GB capacity fits OS and critical apps on a single drive
  • SAS 3 Gb/s interface connects directly to enterprise controllers
  • 16 MB cache buffers bursts for smoother I/O streams
  • 5-inch form factor mounts in standard server bays

Enterprise 15K SAS Drive

The Seagate Cheetah 15K.6 ST3146356SS is a 146 GB 3.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 15000 RPM with a SAS 3Gb/s interface and 16 MB cache. It is built for enterprise servers and storage arrays that demand high transaction rates and low latency. The bare-drive format suits integrators replacing failed units in existing SAS backplanes.

Suits High-IOPS Workloads

This drive fits administrators running database logs, email queues or virtualisation hosts where small-block random performance matters more than raw capacity. Buyers who need more gigabytes per spindle, quieter acoustics for office desktops, or controllers limited to other interfaces should consider alternatives.

15000 RPM Spindle Speed

The 15000 RPM rotational speed is the single specification that determines whether this drive meets the response-time targets of the intended workload. Verify that the host system provides a 3Gb/s SAS connection and adequate cooling for the 3.5-inch form factor before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does my server or workstation need a SAS host-bus adapter or RAID controller to use this ST3146356SS drive?

Yes — the drive uses a 3.5" SAS 3Gb/s interface, so a compatible SAS HBA or RAID card with a free SAS port is required.

Can I run this 15000RPM SAS drive on the same backplane or controller as older 3Gb/s SAS disks?

It will operate at the common 3Gb/s link speed, so it can share a backplane or controller with other 3Gb/s SAS drives without speed mismatch.

How can I verify the ST3146356SS is healthy and performing at 15000RPM after installation?

Check SMART data for the reported rotational speed and run a surface scan; the drive should identify as 146GB with a 16MB cache and show no reallocated sectors.
