  • 5 inch form factor fits standard drive bays
  • Hot-swap support enables drive replacement without downtime

Seagate 2TB SAS server drive

The Seagate ST32000444SS is a 2TB 3.5 inch hard drive built for SAS interfaces. It spins at 7200RPM and supports hot-swap insertion. The drive is supplied new and targets storage servers and compatible HP or Dell platforms.

Suits SAS bays needing hot-swap

This drive fits servers that accept 3.5 inch SAS disks with hot-swap trays. It is not for systems that only provide SATA backplanes or lack hot-swap cages. Buyers who need larger capacities or different form factors should look at other models.

2TB capacity for nearline workloads

Two terabytes give room for operating-system images, logs and moderate data sets. The 7.2K spindle handles sequential throughput well but will saturate under heavy random I/O. Workloads demanding sustained high IOPS will exceed the mechanical headroom.

Questions about this item

Does my server need a SAS controller to use this 7200RPM drive?

Yes, the ST32000444SS connects through a SAS interface, so a compatible SAS host bus adapter or RAID card is required for operation.

Can this 3.5" SAS drive share a backplane with existing SATA drives?

Many server backplanes accept both SAS and SATA drives in the same 3.5" bays, but the controller must support mixed drive types for them to work together.

How can I confirm the ST32000444SS is running at 7.2K RPM after installation?

Check the drive's reported rotational speed in your RAID utility or SMART data; it should show 7200 RPM for this model.
