6 TB 7200 RPM SAS hard drive with 128 MB cache and included 3.5" caddy
The Seagate ST6000NM0014 is a 6 TB nearline hard drive built for 3.5-inch SAS bays. It spins at 7200 RPM and connects through a 12 Gbps SAS interface with a 128 MB cache. The unit ships new and includes an IBM system storage caddy for direct installation in compatible arrays. It targets administrators expanding capacity in Storwize V7000 Gen2 or similar enterprise storage systems.
In typical nearline operation the drive runs at 7200 RPM within standard enterprise temperature limits. The SAS 12 Gbps interface negotiates link speed automatically and draws power from the backplane without an extra connector. Acoustic output is consistent with other 3.5-inch nearline drives in a populated chassis. The included caddy ensures proper airflow alignment in the host enclosure.
During extended sequential workloads the 128 MB buffer absorbs write bursts while the platters maintain 7200 RPM throughput. The SAS dual-port architecture provides path redundancy for continuous availability in RAID sets. Firmware is tuned for nearline duty cycles rather than desktop burst patterns. The drive is not suited for workloads that demand higher random IOPS or lower latency than a 7200 RPM mechanical design can deliver.

Slide the drive into the supplied IBM caddy until the connector engages the 12Gbps SAS backplane, then lock the tray latch; the common error is leaving the latch unlatched, which breaks the data path.
The motor and bearing assembly is the first mechanical item to wear under continuous 7200RPM duty; plan a drive swap when SMART reallocated-sector counts rise.
The 128MB cache absorbs bursts, but sustained sequential writes level off at the physical media rate of the 7200RPM platters before the 12Gbps link saturates.
