2.5" SAS enterprise drive

The Seagate ST600MM0008Product is a 600 GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive built for server and storage-system workloads. It spins at 10000 RPM and connects through a 12Gb/s SAS interface with a 128 MB buffer.

600 GB capacity and 10K RPM headroom

The 600 GB capacity suits transactional databases, virtualisation hosts and tiered storage pools that need low latency. Workloads that demand multi-terabyte sequential throughput or archival density will exceed the available space.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" SAS 12Gb/s drive work in a server backplane that only supports 6Gb/s SAS?

Yes, the 12Gb/s SAS interface is backwards compatible with 6Gb/s and 3Gb/s backplanes, though the drive will run at the slower link speed.

How can I confirm the 256-bit AES encryption is active after installation?

Use the controller BIOS or management utility to query the drive's security status; it will report the encryption state and whether a key is set.
