  • 128 MB cache accelerates frequent reads
  • SAS interface supports 6 Gb/s throughput
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense server bays

600GB 10K SAS drive for servers

This Seagate internal hard drive delivers 600GB of storage on a 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s interface. It spins at 10000RPM and includes a 128MB cache. The unit is supplied new with zero hours of operation. It fits enterprise servers and storage arrays that accept 2.5" SAS drives.

Suits high-IOPS enterprise workloads

Database servers, transactional applications and virtualised environments benefit from the 10K spindle speed and SAS connectivity. The drive is not suited for desktop PCs or laptops that lack a SAS controller. Buyers needing larger capacities or different interfaces should look elsewhere.

12Gb/s SAS interface compatibility

The drive communicates over a 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s link, so the host backplane or controller must support this interface. Verify that your chassis and RAID card provide SAS ports before purchase.

Questions about this item

How does the 10000RPM speed translate to real-world access times in a server?

The 10000RPM spindle reduces rotational latency to around 3 ms, so random read and write requests complete faster than on slower drives, cutting queue depth in transactional workloads.

What does the SAS 6Gb/s interface limit in practice?

The 6Gb/s SAS link caps sustained throughput at roughly 600 MB/s, so sequential transfers cannot exceed that ceiling even if the drive media could go faster.

Will this 2.5-inch drive fit a standard 3.5-inch drive bay?

The 2.5-inch form factor requires a 2.5-to-3.5-inch adapter bracket or a dedicated 2.5-inch hot-swap tray to mount securely in a 3.5-inch bay.
