Small silver 2.5 inch SAS hard drive with label showing model ST9146853SS

Seagate

Seagate ST9146853SS 146GB 15000RPM 64MB 2.5" SAS internal hard drive

SKU CH-B82D-H2P6N

A 146GB 2.5" SAS drive spinning at 15000RPM with 64MB cache for high-speed enterprise storage

  • 15000 RPM spindle speed for fast transactional I/O
  • 64 MB cache buffers bursts for consistent throughput
  • 6 Gb/s SAS interface moves data at high bandwidth
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense server bays
  • 146 GB capacity stores critical datasets

New 146 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drive

The Seagate ST9146853SS is a new 2.5 inch internal hard drive built for enterprise workloads that demand high spindle speed and a 6 Gb/s SAS connection. It provides 146 GB of storage, a 64 MB cache and a 15 000 RPM rotational speed in the SAVVIO 15K.3 form factor.

Suited for transactional servers not bulk storage

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that require fast random access on a SAS backplane. It is not suitable for buyers who need more capacity per spindle or who require a different physical interface than the 2.5 inch SAS connector specified.

15 000 RPM spindle speed is the deciding factor

The 15 000 RPM rotation rate delivers the low latency needed for high IOPS workloads such as database logging or virtualisation hosting. If the target system cannot accommodate a 15 000 RPM SAS drive, this model will not meet the performance requirement.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s interface on the ST9146853SS work with my existing SAS backplane that only supports 3Gb/s?

Yes, the 6Gb/s SAS interface is backward compatible with 3Gb/s backplanes and will negotiate the lower link speed automatically.

How can I verify the 15000RPM spindle speed and 64MB cache are active after installation?

Check the drive’s SMART data or run a vendor diagnostic tool; both will report the rotational speed and cache size as 15000RPM and 64MB respectively.

Does the ST9146853SS ship with a mounting bracket or cables, or do I need to source them separately?

The drive is supplied as a bare 2.5" SAS unit; any 2.5" to 3.5" adapter brackets and SAS data or power cables must be purchased separately.
