SAS enterprise drive

The Seagate SAVVIO ST9300605SS is a 300GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive built for SAS environments. It spins at 10000RPM and provides a 6Gb/s interface with a 64MB buffer. The unit is supplied new with zero hours recorded.

Servers and arrays needing 2.5-inch SAS

This drive suits installations that require a 2.5-inch form factor and a 6Gb/s SAS connection. It is not for systems that only accept 3.5-inch bays or that lack a SAS host bus adapter. Buyers needing larger capacities should consider other models.

6Gb/s SAS interface

The single specification that decides fit is the 6Gb/s SAS interface. The drive will only operate when connected to a compatible SAS controller or backplane that supports this signalling rate.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s interface on this ST9300605SS work with my existing 3Gbps SAS backplane?

Yes, the SAS 6Gb/s interface is backward compatible with 3Gbps SAS controllers and backplanes, though the drive will operate at the lower 3Gbps link speed.

How can I verify the 10000RPM spindle speed and 64MB cache are active after installation?

Check the drive’s reported rotational speed and cache size in your RAID controller BIOS, SAS HBA utility, or operating-system disk information tools such as smartctl or Device Manager.

Does the ST9300605SS ship with a mounting bracket, cables or tray, or must I source them separately?

The drive is supplied as a bare 2.5" SAS unit; any 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket, SAS data/power cables or hot-swap tray must be purchased separately.
