300 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drive

The Seagate ST9300653SS is a 2.5 inch enterprise hard drive built for high-transaction server and storage arrays. Its 15 000 RPM spindle and 64 MB cache deliver low-latency random I/O for database and virtualization workloads.

Suited for 2.5 inch SAS bays only

This drive fits 2.5 inch SAS 6 Gb/s drive bays and requires a compatible SAS backplane or HBA. Buyers needing 3.5 inch form factors, larger capacities, or different interface protocols should look elsewhere.

15 000 RPM spindle speed

The 15 000 RPM rotational speed is the key specification that determines whether this drive meets the performance envelope of the target application. Verify the system accepts 2.5 inch SAS drives before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the ST9300653SS 2.5" SAS 6Gb/s drive work with my existing 3Gb/s SAS backplane?

Yes, the 6Gb/s SAS interface is backward compatible with 3Gb/s backplanes; the drive will negotiate the lower link speed automatically.

How can I verify the ST9300653SS is running at its full 15000RPM and 6Gb/s link speed after installation?

Check the SMART data or controller BIOS for a reported spindle speed of 15000RPM and a negotiated link rate of 6Gb/s.

The listing says "Bare Drive ONLY" — what exactly ships in the box and what must I source separately?

Only the bare 300GB 2.5" SAS drive is included; you must supply your own mounting tray, SAS data and power cables, and any required adapter brackets.
