Enterprise Storage Drive

The Seagate SAVVIO 10K.5 ST9900805SS is a 900GB 2.5-inch SAS hard drive spinning at 10000RPM with a 64MB cache. It is built for servers and storage arrays that require high-throughput transactional workloads in a small form factor.

Suited For Transactional Workloads

This drive fits environments that need fast random-access performance on a 6Gb/s SAS interface, such as database servers or virtualisation hosts. It is not suited for buyers who need larger capacity per bay, for systems that only accept interfaces other than SAS, or for quiet desktop environments where acoustic noise is a concern.

6Gb/s SAS Interface Determines Compatibility

The drive connects via a 2.5-inch SAS 6Gb/s interface, so the host controller or backplane must support this exact standard. Without a compatible SAS port the drive cannot be used, making the interface the single specification that decides fit.

Questions about this item

Will the 2.5-inch SAS drive fit in a standard 3.5-inch bay?

The drive is a 2.5-inch SFF form factor; it requires a 2.5-inch bay or a 3.5-inch adapter bracket to mount securely in a larger chassis.

How do I connect the SAS interface without damaging the pins?

Align the SAS connector with the backplane or cable, press straight in until seated, and avoid angling the drive during insertion to prevent bent contacts.

When should I consider replacing this 10000RPM mechanical drive?

Plan replacement if SMART attributes show reallocated sectors, seek errors, or excessive spin-up retries, as mechanical wear increases with continuous high-speed operation.
