Shakespeare Fishing Tackle 5215 3' Stainless Steel Whip Antenna GPS Accessory

Marine VHF whip antenna

The Shakespeare 5215 is a 3 ft stainless steel whip antenna built for VHF marine band use. It provides 3 dB gain with a 50 watt power rating and a 50 ohm impedance. The hermetically sealed, tin-plated copper wire coil and stainless steel body resist corrosion in saltwater environments. A supplied L-shaped bracket enables masthead mounting on sailboats.

Sailors needing low-profile masthead mounting

This antenna suits sailboat owners who want a lightweight, single-section whip for masthead installation with an SO-239 connector. It is not for vessels requiring a DC ground connection, as the antenna reads open on a continuity test. Boats needing higher gain or a different mounting style should consider other configurations.

3 dB gain on VHF marine band

The 3 dB gain figure determines whether this whip meets the range requirements for a specific vessel's communication needs. At 156.8 MHz the SWR is nominally 1.5:1 with 7 MHz bandwidth within 2.0:1 VSWR. The SO-239 connector and supplied ferrule define the installation interface.
