What this adapter does

This adapter lets you install a standard M.2 M-Key NVMe SSD into a desktop PCIe x4, x8 or x16 slot. The link runs at PCIe 4x speed only. It accepts 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 length cards. A gold aluminium heatsink and thermal pads are included for cooling.

Interface limit

The adapter connects through a PCIe x4 electrical interface, so the SSD cannot exceed that bandwidth. It only works with PCIe-based M-Key NVMe drives and will not function with M.2 SATA B-Key SSDs. Vertical mounting is required inside the case.

Deciding specification

The single specification that decides fit is the M.2 key type: the drive must be an M-Key NVMe SSD. SATA B-Key drives are not supported regardless of length. Builders needing to install a SATA M.2 drive or a second NVMe drive on a platform without a free PCIe slot should choose a different solution.
