2U 8-Bay Hot-Swap Server Chassis

This 2U rackmount chassis fits a standard 19-inch rack and measures 437.5 mm by 650 mm by 88 mm. It is built from 1.0 mm SGCC zinc-coated steel and supports E-ATX motherboards up to 12 inches by 13 inches. Eight hot-swap 3.5-inch drive bays connect through a 6Gb/s SATA backplane that also accepts SAS drives. Seven full-height PCI or PCIe expansion slots provide room for add-in cards.

The chassis suits builders deploying cloud storage, big data or security monitoring platforms that rely on SATA or SAS hard drives. It is not for systems that require more than eight 3.5-inch bays or that need a larger form factor than 2U. The optional slim optical bay only accepts 2.5-inch drives, so a separate enclosure is necessary for 5.25-inch media. Front USB connectivity defaults to USB 2.0 unless the USB 3.0 option is specified.

The single specification that decides fit is the 6Gb/s SATA backplane, which also runs SAS II or III drives at 6Gb/s. This backplane includes a temperature control chipset and connects directly to the motherboard or RAID controller via Mini SAS cables. Selecting a 12Gb/s Mini SAS backplane variant changes the maximum interface speed, so the chosen backplane version must match the host controller capability.
