Cable for SAS backplane expansion

This cable connects a Mini-SAS SFF-8087 port to four individual SFF-8482 connectors with integrated power leads. It targets builders adding direct-attached SAS drives to a RAID controller or HBA inside a server or workstation chassis. The 36-pin plug carries four lanes at 10 Gbps each, matching the bandwidth of a single 6 Gbps SAS link per drive. The 3.28 ft length suits typical internal routing from a rear-mounted controller to front drive bays.

Sustained throughput on four lanes

Each of the four SFF-8482 branches maintains the full 10 Gbps signalling rate during continuous read and write workloads, so aggregate controller bandwidth scales with the number of active drives. The moulded mini-SAS plug and latch-equipped SAS connectors resist unseating under vibration or thermal cycling in densely populated enclosures. Power pins on every branch supply the drive directly from the backplane or PSU, eliminating separate power cables. Systems limited to a single SFF-8087 port cannot address more than four drives with this assembly.
