M.2 Key B SATA Adapter with 3.5" Cage
This adapter converts a SATA-bus M.2 Key B SSD into a 2.5" SATA drive and a USB 2.0 connection. It fits inside a 3.5" drive bay using the included cage. The board supports M.2 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors with Key B or Key B+M pinouts. No drivers are required for any supported operating system.
Compatibility and Limitations
Suitable for users who want to install a SATA-based M.2 SSD into a desktop 3.5" bay or access it over USB 2.0. It does not accept PCIe-bus M.2 Key M modules, so builders with those drives cannot use this adapter. The USB link is limited to the 2.0 standard, which may not meet the speed needs of high-throughput workflows.
Key B SATA Protocol Requirement
The single deciding specification is that the M.2 SSD must use the SATA bus with a Key B or Key B+M interface. PCIe-based Key M drives are physically incompatible and will not function. Verify the drive’s keying and bus type before purchase.

Questions about this item
Which M.2 Key B SSD lengths does the adapter support?
It fits 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 SATA-bus M.2 Key B SSDs, including Key B+M modules.
What practical speed limit does the USB 2.0 connection impose on the SATA SSD?
The USB 2.0 link caps transfer rates at its own maximum, so the SATA SSD will not exceed USB 2.0 throughput.
Does the SATA interface on the adapter run at SATA 3 speed or is it limited by the USB 2.0 path?
The adapter presents a SATA 3 interface to the drive, but data must pass through the USB 2.0 connection, which becomes the bottleneck.
