3-in-1 SharkFin Wi-Fi Antenna

The Sierra Wireless 6001118 is a 3-in-1 SharkFin antenna designed for wireless data networks. It provides dual-band 3x3 MiMo functionality with two internal antennas and an external dual-band whip. The unit is tested and certified for use with AirLink routers and gateways. Its compact OEM-style housing suits fixed or mobile installations.

Compatibility and Mounting Check

Verify that your gateway or router is a compatible Sierra Wireless AirLink model before ordering. The antenna uses RP-SMA connectors, so the host device must provide matching ports. Confirm the mounting surface can accept a screw-mount form factor. The operating frequencies are 2.30 GHz to 2.50 GHz and 4.90 GHz to 6 GHz.

Integration Into a Build

The screw-mount design secures the antenna to a panel or vehicle roof with a low profile of 2.4 inches width and 2 inches height. It weighs approximately 2.01 lb. The omni-directional pattern and 6 dBi gain deliver broad coverage without aiming. RP-SMA cables connect directly to the radio, freeing internal space for other components.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the 6001118 SharkFin antenna and what else is needed for installation?

The package includes the 3-in-1 SharkFin antenna with its integrated dual-band whip and two internal elements; mounting hardware for the screw-mount base is supplied, but RP-SMA pigtail cables to reach the AirLink gateway must be purchased separately.

Which frequency coverage should I choose between the 2.30–2.50 GHz and 4.90–6 GHz bands?

Both bands are built into the same antenna; the lower range covers 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the upper range covers 5 GHz Wi-Fi, so the single 6001118 unit serves dual-band 3x3 MIMO without a separate model choice.

What does the 6 dBi gain figure mean for real-world range on an AirLink gateway?

The 6 dBi omni-directional gain concentrates signal toward the horizon, typically extending usable Wi-Fi distance by roughly twice the range of a unity-gain antenna when mounted clear of obstructions on the gateway.
