Ultra-wide 14mm full-frame lens with f/1.8 aperture for low-light and astrophotography on Sony E mount
The SIGMA 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens covers a 35mm full-frame sensor with a 14mm focal length and a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture. It is built for photographers who need ultra-wide perspectives with shallow depth of field, such as astrophotography, environmental portraits and low-light interiors. The Hyper-Sonic Motor provides fast, quiet autofocus suitable for both stills and video work.
At f/1.8 the lens gathers significantly more light than typical f/2.8 ultra-wide zooms, allowing faster shutter speeds or lower ISO settings in dark scenes. This reduces noise in night-sky images and helps freeze subtle motion like fireflies or aurora without pushing sensor gain. The nine-blade diaphragm produces smooth bokeh when the aperture is stopped down toward f/16.
As part of Sigma’s Art series the lens prioritises optical correction for distortion, coma and chromatic aberration across the frame. The HSM drive enables full-time manual focus override without leaving AF mode, useful for precise star focusing. A petal-type hood is included to shield the bulbous front element from flare and incidental contact during wide-angle composition.

Align the white mounting index on the lens barrel with the matching mark on the camera flange, then rotate clockwise until the lock pin clicks; forgetting to seat the index fully before turning can leave the electronic contacts misaligned.
The Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) focus drive and the aperture blade assembly are the primary wear items; periodic cleaning of the front element's multi-layer coating also maintains the f/1.8 light transmission.
Coma and astigmatism toward the frame corners become visible before vignetting or spherical aberration, especially on 35mm full-frame sensors during sustained astrophotography sessions.
