An 18.8× APS-C zoom covering 16-300mm with 6.7-stop stabilisation at the wide end and 4.5-stop at the telephoto end for handheld versatility
The Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary covers an 18.8x zoom range from wide-angle to super-telephoto in a single lens. Its 20 elements in 14 groups include FLD, SLD and aspherical glass to suppress aberrations across the frame. Built-in Optical Stabilisation delivers up to 6 stops of correction at the wide end and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end. The HLA linear actuator provides fast, quiet autofocus for stills and video.
Photographers who want one lens for landscapes, portraits, wildlife and sports without changing glass will benefit from the broad focal span and close-up capability of 1:2 magnification. Buyers who need a constant wide aperture for shallow depth of field or low-light subject separation should look at something else. The variable f/3.5-6.7 design prioritises reach and portability over maximum light gathering.
The defining specification is the 18.8x zoom ratio, the widest range available for an APS-C mirrorless mount. If your workflow demands a single optic that stretches from 16mm to 300mm on Leica L, this lens meets that need; if you require a faster maximum aperture or a smaller footprint, it does not.

Align the white mounting index on the lens barrel with the matching mark on the camera's Leica L mount, then rotate clockwise until the lock clicks; the step often missed is removing the rear protective cap before alignment so the index sits flush.
No routine internal service is required for the OS unit or HLA motor; keep the 2.9-inch front filter thread clean, protect the rear mount contacts with the supplied cap when the lens is off the body, and have a technician check the stabilisation if you notice drift after heavy use.
At 300 mm the maximum aperture is f/6.7, so the OS system provides 4.5 stops of correction there versus 6 stops at 16 mm; beyond that shutter speeds drop quickly, making a tripod or higher ISO the practical limit for blur-free frames.
