Compact APS-C zoom lens

The Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM is built for Nikon APS-C DSLR bodies. It covers the 17-70mm focal range with a maximum aperture of F2.8 at the wide end. The lens suits photographers who want a single zoom for everyday scenes and close-up work.

Macro focus and USB Dock compatibility

Minimum focus distance is 0.22m or 8.66 inches, allowing 1:2.8 macro reproduction. Optical stabilisation helps when shooting handheld at slower shutter speeds. The lens works with Sigma's USB Dock for firmware updates and focus adjustment.

72mm filter thread and black barrel

The barrel takes 72mm filters and uses a black finish. Mounting is via the Nikon F mount for APS-C cameras. The construction balances portable dimensions with the durability expected from a contemporary zoom lens.

Questions about this item

Will the 72mm filter thread need replacement if the front element gets scratched?

The 72mm filter thread is integral to the lens barrel; if the front element is damaged the entire front assembly must be serviced rather than simply replacing a filter ring.

At 70mm focal length the maximum aperture drops to F4 — does that limit low-light shooting?

At the 70mm end the widest aperture is F4, so less light reaches the sensor than at 17mm F2.8; you will need higher ISO or slower shutter speeds in dim conditions.

How much heat does the lens generate when the OS stabilisation runs continuously all day?

The optical stabilisation unit draws minimal power and the lens barrel remains close to ambient temperature even during extended hand-held shooting sessions.
