Compact APS-C Zoom for Sony E

The SIGMA 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens is built for APS-C mirrorless bodies. Its constant f/2.8 aperture covers a 27-75mm equivalent range, suiting landscapes, portraits and street work. Weighing under 300g, it stays on the camera as a daily driver or serves as a light sub-lens for full-frame users. The bundle adds a Hoya 55mm UV+CPL filter and a cleaning kit.

Optical design under sustained use

Thirteen elements in ten groups include one SLD and three aspherical pieces to control aberrations across the zoom range. The stepping motor keeps autofocus fast and quiet during long video takes or burst sequences. Minimum focus reaches 12.1 cm at 1:2.8 magnification, allowing extended close-up sessions without overheating or focus breathing issues common in lesser designs.

E-mount APS-C coverage limits

The image circle covers APS-C sensors only; vignetting appears on full-frame unless the camera crops automatically. The 55mm filter thread accepts the included Hoya filter but blocks larger screw-in accessories without step-up rings. Maximum magnification of 1:2.8 is not true 1:1 macro, so extreme detail work needs dedicated optics.
