Lens purpose and audience

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens for Sony E delivers a 45mm equivalent field of view suited to portraits, street scenes and everyday shooting. Its bright f/1.4 aperture and nine rounded diaphragm blades produce smooth background separation for subject isolation. The bundle adds a 52mm filter, cleaning kit, pouch and lens-cap tether so the lens is ready for immediate use.

Build quality and daily handling

The Contemporary series construction balances optical performance with a compact form factor for Sony E-mount bodies. A supplied lens hood shades the front element while the 52mm filter thread accepts standard protective or creative filters. The included tether secures the front cap against loss during frequent cap-on and cap-off cycles in the field.

Optical limits and practical constraints

The APS-C image circle covers Sony E-mount crop sensors but does not fill a full-frame sensor without vignetting or crop mode. The 30mm focal length provides a fixed perspective equivalent to 45mm on full frame, so photographers needing wider or longer framing must change lenses or move position. Maximum aperture remains f/1.4 throughout the focus range.

Questions about this item

Does the Sony E-mount on this 30 mm f/1.4 lens cover full-frame or is it APS-C only?

The DC designation means the image circle covers APS-C sensors; on a full-frame Sony E body the camera will switch to APS-C crop mode, giving a 45 mm equivalent field of view.

What diameter filter threads does the barrel have so I can mount the included filter?

The front of the lens takes 52 mm filters, which matches the filter supplied in the kit.

How do I attach the supplied lens hood without blocking the filter?

The hood bayonets onto the same 52 mm front threads, so screw the filter on first, then twist the hood over it until it clicks.
