Ideal APS-C Prime

This 30mm f/1.4 prime is built for Canon APS-C digital SLR cameras. The wide maximum aperture suits low-light work and shallow depth of field for portraits and indoor scenes. A Hyper Sonic Motor delivers quiet, high-speed autofocus with full-time manual override. Two special-low-dispersion elements and a glass-mold aspherical element correct chromatic and colour aberrations.

Bright Aperture Performance

The f/1.4 aperture provides strong subject isolation and usable shutter speeds in dim conditions. At f/16 the lens reaches its minimum aperture for extended depth of field when needed. Close focus at 15.7 inches yields a maximum magnification of 1:10 for detail shots. The 45-degree angle of view on APS-C matches a classic normal perspective.

Upgrade from Kit Zooms

Photographers moving from variable-aperture kit zooms gain a constant f/1.4 aperture and faster focusing. The fixed focal length encourages deliberate composition but does not suit shooters who need zoom flexibility or full-frame coverage. The 62mm filter thread accepts standard accessories included in the bundle.

Questions about this item

Will this 30mm f/1.4 lens autofocus correctly on my older Canon APS-C body that only supports screw-drive AF?

The lens uses its own Hyper Sonic Motor for autofocus, so it does not rely on a camera body screw drive and will autofocus on any compatible Canon EF or EF-S mount.

How can I verify the lens is performing as specified after mounting it on my Canon DSLR?

Check that the aperture opens to f/1.4, the focus ring moves smoothly for full-time manual override, and images show the 45-degree angle of view with minimal chromatic aberration at the 15.7-inch minimum focus distance.

Does the box include the 62mm filters, hood and caps mentioned, or must I buy them separately?

The package supplies two 62mm filters, a lens hood, a front cap and a rear cap, so no additional accessories are required for basic use.
