Lens purpose and fit

This Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens is built for APS-C L-mount mirrorless cameras. The fast f/1.4 aperture serves low-light shooting and shallow depth-of-field work. It is not for photographers who need a zoom range or full-frame image-circle coverage.

Capacity and headroom

The 56mm focal length gives an 84mm equivalent field of view on APS-C sensors, placing it in the short-telephoto portrait zone. One SLD and two aspherical elements correct spherical and chromatic aberrations for sharpness across the f/1.4-to-f/16 aperture range.

Thermals noise and power

A stepping autofocus motor drives focus quickly, precisely and near-silently, suiting both stills and video. The optical formula and Super Multi-Layer Coating suppress flare and ghosting in strong light without adding mechanical noise or heat.
