85mm F1.4 Portrait Lens

The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lens is built for mirrorless L-mount cameras. Its wide maximum aperture and 85mm focal length suit portrait photographers who want shallow depth of field and strong subject separation. The optical formula uses 15 elements in 11 groups, including five SLD elements and one aspherical lens, to deliver high resolving power. This bundle adds a 77mm filter kit and cleaning accessories for immediate use.

Optical Capacity and Headroom

The large f/1.4 aperture provides ample light-gathering ability for indoor or low-light portraits without pushing ISO. Five SLD elements and one aspherical lens suppress chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare, maintaining sharpness across the frame at wide apertures. Stopping down increases depth of field for group shots while preserving the lens's characteristic rendering. Diffraction eventually limits resolution at very small apertures, as with any fast prime.

L-Mount Interface Limits

The lens communicates fully with the L-mount protocol for high-speed autofocus and in-camera optical corrections. Iris ring operation is supported on compatible bodies for manual aperture control. Vignetting and distortion corrections rely on camera-side profiles applied automatically to RAW or JPEG files. Firmware updates are delivered through the camera body when Sigma releases improvements for the mount system.

Questions about this item

Will this 85mm f/1.4 lens autofocus quickly on my older L-mount body?

The lens is compatible with high-speed autofocus on L-mount cameras, so it will drive focus rapidly on both current and earlier bodies that support the mount's AF protocol.

How can I verify the optical correction profile is active after mounting the lens?

When attached, the camera applies lens-based optical correction automatically; check the EXIF data or the in-camera correction menu to confirm the profile for this 85mm f/1.4 Art lens is engaged.

Does the bundle include a 77mm filter and a protective wrap, or must I buy them separately?

The box contains the lens, a ProOptic 77mm filter kit, a lens wrap, a lens shade, a cap tether, cleaning supplies and a Mac software kit — no extra purchases are required for those items.
