4U rackmount server chassis supporting SSI-CEB, ATX and mini-ITX motherboards with three 5.25" drive bays, 160mm PSU depth, seven expansion slots.
The SilverStone RM400 is a 4U rackmount server chassis built for professional and data-centre environments. It accepts SSI-CEB, ATX and mATX motherboards and provides three 5.25-inch front bays for optical drives or hot-swap modules. A lockable front door adds physical security for shared racks. Two PWM fans, one 120mm and one 80mm, are included for airflow.
The included 120mm and 80mm PWM fans adjust speed to load, keeping noise lower during light work. The chassis supports ATX or mini redundant power supplies up to 160mm deep, allowing efficient power delivery without excess cable clutter. Front I/O uses USB 3.1 Gen 1 at 5Gbps, backward compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1, so peripherals draw minimal power. Seven standard-profile expansion slots give room for add-in cards without blocking airflow paths.
This chassis replaces older 4U cases that lack USB 3.1 Gen 1 front ports or support only ATX boards. The jump is worth it when you need SSI-CEB motherboard clearance, three 5.25-inch bays and a lockable door in one unit. Builders who require more than seven expansion slots or 2.5-inch hot-swap bays should look elsewhere. It also does not suit towers or wall-mount installations.

Secure the chassis with four cage nuts per side using the front mounting ears, then verify the rear support brackets are engaged — installers often skip the rear brackets.
The 120 mm and 80 mm PWM fans should be cleaned of dust every few months and replaced if bearing noise appears; both use standard 4-pin connectors for easy swaps.
The single 120 mm front intake and 80 mm rear exhaust can become the bottleneck, so sustained loads may raise internal temperatures faster than in dual-intake designs.
