Precision Swiss Pattern File for Metalworkers
The Simonds 84141000 is a new Swiss pattern half-round precision file designed for shaping aluminium, brass, bronze, steel and tin. Its double-cut faces and safe edges suit detailed work on curved surfaces and inside corners. The rigid body tapers toward the point for controlled material removal. It is supplied in a protective box.
Double-Cut Geometry Limits Aggressive Stock Removal
The number 0 smooth cut produces a fine finish but reduces the volume of material removed per stroke compared to bastard or second cuts. Safe edges prevent scoring adjacent faces when filing slots or shoulders, yet they also restrict the file from cutting flush into tight corners. The half-round profile serves both flat and concave contours without excelling at either extreme.
Verify Workpiece Hardness
Confirm the metals you intend to file fall within the listed aluminium, brass, bronze, steel and tin range; harder alloys will dull the teeth quickly. Ensure your bench space accommodates an eight-inch file length and that the 13/16 inch width fits the features you must reach. The 15/64 inch thickness demands sufficient clearance in narrow channels.
