Sky-Watcher 12 inch Dobsonian Telescope

The Sky-Watcher 12 inch Dobsonian Telescope is a Newtonian reflector designed for deep-space observation. Its 305mm objective lens gathers significant light to reveal faint celestial objects. The optical tube delivers 44x total magnification for detailed views of nebulae and galaxies. This instrument suits serious amateur astronomers seeking aperture for challenging targets.

Sustained deep-space observing performance

Under sustained viewing sessions the 305mm aperture resolves structure in objects that remain invisible in smaller instruments. The Horsehead Nebula in Orion and the faint M76 nebula in Perseus become accessible at 11th magnitude. Spiral arms of the M61 galaxy in Virgo and the planetary nebula M97 in Ursa Major reveal detail that requires this aperture class. Extended dwell time on these targets is rewarded with clearer resolution.

Collapsible Flextube setup and transport

The Flextube collapsible design allows the optical tube to shorten for storage and transport to dark sites. Setup involves extending the truss tubes and locking them into position before aligning the finder. The multi-colour finish helps visibility in low-light conditions. Observers must allow the primary mirror to reach thermal equilibrium for optimal image stability during long sessions.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the 12-inch Dobsonian produce during an all-night observing session?

The solid-tube Newtonian reflector has no fans or motors, so it runs silently and adds no heat beyond ambient temperature.

What additional items must I already own to use the 305 mm aperture telescope at 44x magnification?

You need at least one eyepiece that fits the focuser and a stable, level surface for the Dobsonian base.

Can the 300P collapsible tube sit on the same mount I use for my older 10-inch reflector?

The 12-inch Flextube requires its own Dobsonian rocker box; it is not compatible with a 10-inch mount.
