Stable mount for telescopes up to 15 lb

The Sky-Watcher AZ5 alt-azimuth mount pairs a manual slow-motion head with a 1.75" rolled steel tripod. It supports optical tubes weighing up to 15 lb, making it suitable for a variety of refractors, reflectors and catadioptric models. The combination delivers a vibration-resistant platform for both visual astronomy and basic imaging.

Adjustable tripod fits backyard or remote sites

The steel legs extend from 42 to 55 inches, letting you set a comfortable working height on uneven ground. Its collapsible design keeps the kit manageable for transport to darker skies, while the sturdy construction maintains rigidity once positioned. No power source or electronic alignment is required, so the mount integrates easily into a grab-and-go kit.

Smooth manual tracking with minimal vibration

The alt-azimuth head uses slow-motion control cables for fine adjustments in both axes, avoiding the motor noise and power draw of computerised systems. The rolled steel tripod legs dampen high-frequency shake from wind or handling, keeping the view steady during extended sessions. The all-mechanical design means there are no batteries to drain or electronics to fail in cold conditions.

Questions about this item

How much weight can the AZ5 mount hold before it becomes unstable?

The mount is rated for 15 lb, so telescopes and accessories totalling up to that limit stay secure during use.

Does the 1.75" steel tripod transmit noticeable vibration during long observing sessions?

The rolled-steel legs and adjustable height between 42 and 55 inches are designed to dampen vibration for steadier views over extended periods.

What dovetail or mounting plate must I already have to attach my telescope to the AZ5?

The mount accepts standard Vixen-style dovetail bars, so a matching saddle or plate on the telescope tube is required for installation.
