Compact white Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope tube with black V-style dovetail plate

Sky-Watcher

Sky-Watcher Skymax 150 Maksutov-Cassegrain 150mm f/12 Telescope

SKU CH-8KA1-899MA

A 150 mm Maksutov-Cassegrain with an 1800 mm focal length and f/12 ratio for detailed lunar and planetary viewing

  • 150 mm aperture gathers ample light for detailed celestial views
  • 1800 mm focal length delivers high magnification for lunar and planetary detail
  • f/12 focal ratio provides exceptional magnification capabilities
  • fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission and minimize glare
  • V-style dovetail plate ensures stable mount attachment for steady observations

Aperture and focal ratio

The Sky-Watcher Skymax 150 is a Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope with a 150 mm aperture and f/12 focal ratio. It is built for observers who want high-magnification views of the Moon and planets. The compact optical tube suits astronomers who value portability without sacrificing resolution. Buyers seeking very wide-field deep-sky imaging will find the long focal length limiting.

Thermal behaviour and stability

The closed-tube design protects the optics from air currents, helping the system reach thermal equilibrium quickly. Fully multi-coated surfaces maximise light transmission while suppressing internal reflections. The rigid construction keeps the primary mirror and meniscus corrector aligned during handling. No active cooling or power supply is required for normal visual use.

Mounting and system integration

A black V-style dovetail plate is included for direct attachment to compatible mounts. The short tube length keeps the centre of gravity low, reducing leverage on the mount head. This frees payload capacity for cameras or guide scopes on lighter equatorial platforms. Users must supply a mount, diagonal, eyepieces and any imaging accessories separately.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the Skymax 150 to my mount using the V-style dovetail plate?

Slide the included black V-style dovetail plate into the matching saddle on your mount and tighten the locking screws evenly; the step most people miss is confirming the plate sits flush before securing it.

What maintenance will the 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain optics need over time?

The fully multi-coated meniscus corrector plate and mirrors only require occasional dusting with a soft brush; avoid liquids unless dew forms, then use a dedicated optics cloth.

At f/12 and 1800mm focal length, what limits deep-sky viewing during long sessions?

The long focal ratio narrows the field of view and dims extended nebulae, so faint deep-sky objects become the practical limit before tracking or vibration issues appear.
