2-in-1 Hydraulic Launcher for Ages 6-14

The Smartivity SMRT1222 kit lets children build a working hydraulic machine that launches paper aeroplanes and darts. Fifty-eight precision-cut wooden parts and a detailed manual guide the assembly, creating a screen-free activity suited to boys and girls across the 6 to 14 age range.

Sustained engagement through repeatable experiments

Hydraulic pressure provides consistent launching force without batteries, so the mechanism performs the same way on the fiftieth flight as on the first. The 90-minute build develops fine motor skills and introduces fluid-power principles that can be explored again across 50-plus experiments.

Replaces passive screen time

This set substitutes video-game sessions for a tangible construction project that teaches physics through play. The jump is worthwhile when a parent wants a 100 per cent screen-free gift that includes lifetime parts replacement and carries STEM.org approval plus a 2022 Innovative Toy of the Year award.

Questions about this item

Does the 172-gram launcher stay stable on the table during repeated use?

The 172-gram MDF frame sits firmly on a flat surface; its low centre of gravity keeps it from sliding when the hydraulic trigger is pulled.

Are extra syringes or tubing required to operate the hydraulic system?

All 58 parts, including syringes and tubing, are in the box along with the instructional manual.

Can the 58-piece set be combined with earlier Smartivity kits that use the same wooden pegs?

The pegs and slots follow the same 33 cm x 31 cm grid, so components from previous kits fit interchangeably.
