M.2 B-Key 5G HAT for Raspberry Pi 4
This expansion HAT adds a USB 3.0 M.2 B-Key slot and SIM card holder to a Raspberry Pi 4. It enables cellular connectivity using compatible 3G, 4G or 5G modules such as the RM500Q, RM500U, GM800 or SIM8200. The board is designed for IoT gateways, industrial monitoring, remote communication and edge computing projects.
Suitable for Pi 4 cellular projects.
Makers and engineers building 5G-enabled Raspberry Pi 4 appliances will find the integrated SIM slot and high-speed USB 3.0 link convenient. It is not for users working with different single-board computers, nor for applications that require a PCIe interface instead of USB 3.0. The HAT form factor also means it cannot be used inside enclosures that lack the matching GPIO header clearance.
USB 3.0 M.2 B-Key interface with SIM slot
The decisive specification is the USB 3.0 connection to the M.2 B-Key socket, which determines which cellular modules can be used and the maximum data throughput available to the Pi 4. Supported modules include the RM500Q, RM500U, GM800 and SIM8200, all of which rely on this USB 3.0 pathway for 5G communication.

Questions about this item
Does the SMUGDESK HAT come with a 5G module or SIM card, or must I buy them separately?
The board includes the M.2 B-Key slot and an onboard SIM slot only; supported modules such as the RM500Q, RM500U, GM800 or SIM8200 and a SIM card must be purchased separately.
Which cellular modules are confirmed compatible with the M.2 B-Key slot on this HAT?
The HAT supports mainstream 3G/4G/5G modules including the RM500Q, RM500U, GM800 and SIM8200, all of which fit the standard M.2 B-Key interface.
What real-world throughput can I expect from the USB 3.0 link between the HAT and a Raspberry Pi 4?
The USB 3.0 interface provides high-bandwidth transmission for 5G module data, delivering the full USB 3.0 signalling rate to the Pi 4 for cellular connectivity.
