Multipurpose RJ45 RJ11 RJ12 Cable Tester

This handheld tester checks continuity and wiring faults on Cat5 and Cat6 UTP Ethernet cables plus RJ11 and RJ12 telephone cords. A main unit and a separate remote module let you verify long runs across rooms or wall sockets without bringing both ends together. Sequential LEDs show each pin connection for fast fault diagnosis. Compact design suits installers, technicians and home DIY troubleshooting.

Practical Limits of Continuity Testing

The tool identifies open circuits, short circuits, crossed wires and mis-pinned connections on unshielded twisted-pair cables up to Cat6 performance. It does not measure bandwidth, crosstalk, attenuation or certify links to any Category standard. Power over Ethernet voltage and active network equipment must be absent during testing. Battery is not supplied so you must provide a suitable cell before use.

Check Your Setup Before Ordering

Ensure the cables you need to test terminate in RJ45, RJ11 or RJ12 plugs that fit the tester ports. Verify you can access both ends of each run or place the remote module at the far socket for in-wall or patch-panel links. Confirm you have a compatible battery available as none is included. The tester cannot diagnose faults on fibre, coaxial or shielded cables with non-standard pinouts.
