SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK Single Port Gigabit SFP PCIe x1 Ethernet NIC Intel I210

SKU CH-KNPT-HAPBG

Single-port gigabit fiber NIC with Intel I210 controller, open SFP cage, PCIe x1 interface, VLAN and jumbo-frame support, and optional low-profile bracket

  • Intel I210 controller ensures stable gigabit fiber links
  • Open SFP cage accepts multi-mode or single-mode modules
  • PCIe x1 interface fits x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots
  • Hardware checksum offload reduces CPU load during transfers
  • Full-height and low-profile brackets suit any chassis

Single-port SFP gigabit NIC

The SMUGDESK network card adds one open SFP cage to a desktop or server through a PCIe x1 slot. An Intel I210 controller handles the gigabit fiber link, and the board accepts multi-mode or single-mode 1 Gbps transceivers. Standard full-height and optional low-profile brackets are supplied for different chassis sizes.

Suited for fiber uplinks in servers

Administrators who need a single long-distance fiber connection on Windows, Linux, VMware ESXi or freeBSD will find the hardware offload engine and VLAN tagging useful. Builders who require copper ports or additional SFP cages cannot use this card.

Open SFP cage for 1 Gbps modules

The slot accepts any compatible 1 Gbps SFP transceiver, so the reach and fiber type are chosen at install time. IEEE 802.3ab gigabit framing, jumbo frames and checksum offload are handled in hardware by the I210.

Questions about this item

What does the Intel I210 chipset actually deliver when the card is installed in a server?

The Intel I210 controller provides stable gigabit fiber transmission through the open SFP slot and supports both multi-mode and single-mode SFP modules for long-distance networking.

How does the PCIe x1 interface affect throughput in a real system?

The card uses a PCIe x1 bus that fits x1, x4, x8 or x16 slots, and the IEEE 802.3ab gigabit standard caps practical throughput at 1 Gbps regardless of the wider slot.

Which bracket do I need for a low-profile chassis?

A standard full-height bracket is included, and an optional low-profile half-height bracket is available for small form factor installations.
