What this cable does and who needs it

The SMUGDESK Thunderbolt 4 cable delivers 40 Gbps bandwidth, 100 W charging and 8K video over a 6.6 ft length. It suits users who connect high-performance docks, eGPU enclosures or dual 4K monitors to a Thunderbolt 4 host. Buyers who only need basic USB 2.0 charging or data sync will not benefit from the extra bandwidth.

Installation and common issues

Plug the USB-C connectors into the host and the peripheral; no driver is required. The cable is USB-IF certified, so it negotiates the correct power and data rates automatically. Problems usually arise when either port lacks Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 40 Gbps support, limiting speed to 20 Gbps or lower.

Check your setup before ordering

Verify that both the host port and the device port are labelled Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 40 Gbps to reach the rated 40 Gbps throughput. Confirm the charger can supply up to 100 W at 20 V / 5 A if you need maximum charging speed. Ensure the 6.6 ft reach fits your desk layout without strain on the connectors.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the cable is delivering 40 Gbps bandwidth after connecting it?

The cable is USB-IF certified for Thunderbolt 4 and supports up to 40 Gbps; actual throughput depends on the host port — Gen 3 ports reach 40 Gbps while Gen 2 ports reach 20 Gbps.

What comes in the box and is a charger included?

The package contains the 6.6 ft Thunderbolt 4 cable only; a compatible USB-C charger must be purchased separately to enable 100 W charging.

Should I choose the 1.6 ft or 6.6 ft version for a desktop docking setup?

The 6.6 ft length gives more routing flexibility for a desktop dock, while the 1.6 ft version suits tighter spaces; both share identical 40 Gbps, 8K video and 100 W charging specs.
