USB 3.0 A Male to A Male Extension

This three-pack of USB 3.0 Type A male-to-male cables extends the reach between a host computer and peripherals such as external hard drives, hubs, printers, cameras and VR headsets. Each cable measures 3.3 ft and supports SuperSpeed data rates up to 5 Gbps when both ends are USB 3.0 compliant. The cables are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports. Nickel-plated connectors and foil-and-braid shielding aim to minimise interference.

Installation and common issues

Connection is plug-and-play: simply insert each Type A plug into the corresponding port on the host and the device. No drivers or configuration are required. The most frequent issue arises when either the source or the peripheral is only USB 2.0 or 1.1 compliant; in that case the link falls back to the slower standard and the 5 Gbps rate is not achieved. Ensure both ends support USB 3.0 for full performance.

Deciding specification: USB 3.0 Type A male-to-male

The critical factor is the male-to-male Type A connector layout combined with USB 3.0 signalling. This cable only fits devices that present a USB 3.0 Type A receptacle; it cannot connect to Type B, Micro, Mini or Type C ports. Buyers whose equipment uses any other USB connector type will need a different cable or adapter.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the cable is delivering 5 Gbps after connecting it?

Check the transfer speed in your operating system or run a benchmark; the cable supports up to 5 Gbps when both the host and the device are USB 3.0 compliant.

What comes in the 3-pack and do I need anything else to use it?

The pack contains three 3.3 ft USB 3.0 Type A male-to-male cables; no extra adapters or drivers are required for plug-and-play operation.

Which cable should I choose if my external drive has a USB 3.0 Type A port?

This cable is built for USB 3.0 Type A male-to-male connections, so it matches a drive with a Type A USB 3.0 port and works with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports as well.
