SMUGDESK USB 3.0 Extension Cable 1.64ft 3 Pack

This three-pack of USB 3.0 Type A male-to-female extension cables adds 1.64ft of reach to existing connections. Each cable supports data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps (5,120 Mbps) and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports. Gold-plated connectors and foil-and-braid shielding provide reliable signal integrity. No drivers are required for plug-and-play operation.

Who this suits; who should look elsewhere

These extensions suit users who need extra length for peripherals such as keyboards, mice, flash drives, cameras or printers connected to a PC, laptop, hub or monitor. They are not for buyers who need a male-to-male cable for direct PC-to-PC or drive-to-PC links. They also do not suit setups requiring longer runs beyond the 1.64ft length provided per cable.

Key specification: 5Gbps USB 3.0 Type

The decisive specification is the USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface rated at up to 5Gbps (5,120 Mbps) over a Type A male-to-female connector pair. This determines whether the cable matches the port type and bandwidth required by the peripheral. The 10,000-plus bend rating and shielded construction support durable daily use.

Questions about this item

What USB-A port speed must my computer have so the cable can reach its rated 5120 Mbps?

The host needs a USB 3.0 Type-A port; USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports will fall back to 480 Mbps or slower.

Will the 1.64 ft extension still deliver 5120 Mbps when plugged into a USB 2.0 hub I already own?

No — a USB 2.0 hub caps the link at 480 Mbps, so the cable runs at USB 2.0 speed despite its 3.0 rating.

How can I verify the link is actually running at 5120 Mbps after I connect the cable?

Check the OS device manager or system profiler; it should list the connection as SuperSpeed or USB 3.0 rather than High-Speed.
