What this cable delivers

The SMUGDESK USB 4.0 cable supports data transfer up to 40Gbps and 100W power delivery over a 3.3ft nylon-braided length. It connects USB4 or Thunderbolt hosts to monitors, docks and high-speed storage. Compatibility covers Thunderbolt 3 and 4 plus earlier USB-C standards.

Sustained workload behaviour

At the full 40Gbps rate the link moves large datasets to RAID arrays or eGPU enclosures without the slowdown seen on 20Gbps cables. The 100W charge capability keeps a laptop powered while the display and storage are active. Backward compatibility ensures older 3.2, 3.1 and 2.0 devices still function at their native speeds.

Check before ordering

Your host port must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode for any video output, including single 8K@60Hz or dual 4K@60Hz. Verify that the monitor’s USB-C input also accepts DP Alt Mode. The cable works with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts and is backward compatible with USB 3.2, 3.1 and 2.0 ports.

Questions about this item

Does the 3.3ft nylon braided cable get warm when delivering 100W power all day?

The cable is rated for 100W at 20V 5A and uses a nylon braid for heat dissipation; normal operation at full load stays within USB‑IF temperature limits.

My laptop only has USB‑C 3.2 ports — will this cable still drive an 8K@60Hz monitor?

Video output requires the host port to support DisplayPort Alternate Mode; USB‑C 3.2 alone does not guarantee Alt Mode, so check your laptop specification.

Can I use this cable with a Thunderbolt 3 dock from 2018 and keep 40Gbps speeds?

Yes — the cable is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and USB‑C 3.2, 3.1, 2.0, so a 2018 dock will run at its native Thunderbolt 3 bandwidth.
