What this cable does

The SMUGDESK USB4 cable connects USB-C devices with a male-to-male, reversible plug. It supports the USB4 Gen 3x2 standard and carries Thunderbolt 5 signals for compatible hosts and peripherals. Length is 6.6 feet.

Sustained power and data behaviour

The cable delivers up to 240W at 48V using PD 3.1 Extended Power Range and remains backwards compatible with 180W, 140W, 100W and 60W profiles. Bi-directional data runs at up to 80Gbps when both ends support USB4 Gen 3x2.

The deciding specification

Maximum power delivery is 240W, which requires a 240W EPR PD 3.1 charger and a device able to draw that load. Buyers whose hardware only accepts lower wattage will not reach this ceiling.

Questions about this item

Does the 240 W power delivery generate noticeable heat during all-day charging?

The cable supports up to 240 W PD 3.1 EPR charging at 48 V and is fully backward compatible with 180 W, 140 W, 100 W and 60 W profiles, so it handles sustained loads without excess heat.

What charger and device do I need to reach the 240 W rating?

A 240 W EPR PD 3.1 charger and a device that accepts 240 W input are required; the cable also works with Apple 140 W USB-C EPR chargers for MacBook Pro 16'' at full load.

Will the 80 Gbps data rate work with my older Thunderbolt 3 dock?

The cable uses USB4 Gen 3x2 for up to 80 Gbps bi-directional transfer and is backward compatible with lower-speed USB and Thunderbolt devices, so it functions with existing docks at their rated speeds.
