Two 10Gbps USB-C ports
The Sonnet Allegro USB 3.1 PCIe card adds two SuperSpeed+ USB-C connections to a Mac Pro tower, Windows PC, Linux computer or Thunderbolt to PCIe expansion system. Each port delivers up to 10Gbps bandwidth and 15W of power for bus-powered devices. It targets users who need faster external storage performance than standard USB 3.0 ports can provide.
USB 3.0 limited to 5Gbps and 4.5W
Existing USB 3.0 ports operate at 5Gbps and supply only 4.5W, which can restrict the speed of high-performance SSDs and may leave bus-powered drives without enough power to operate. The Allegro card overcomes both limits by doubling the data rate and tripling the available power per port. Systems without a free PCIe slot or without USB-C headers cannot use this card.
Replaces native USB 3.0 ports
This card upgrades a workstation that relies on built-in USB 3.0 connections, raising the practical throughput ceiling to 960 MB/s for compatible Gen 2 SSDs. The jump is worth it when workflows move large media files and the current ports throttle transfer speeds or fail to spin up bus-powered drives. It does not add Thunderbolt functionality or support internal drive headers.

Questions about this item
Should I pick this two-port 10Gb card or look for a single-port version?
This card provides two USB-C ports each running at up to 10Gbps, so you gain twice the connectivity without sacrificing per-port speed.
What does the 960 MB/s figure mean for my SSD?
It is the real-world transfer ceiling when a Gen 2 USB-C SSD RAID is attached to either port, so your drive can sustain nearly 1GB/s instead of stopping at 5Gbps limits.
Does the PCIe interface cap the 10Gbps speed in practice?
The card installs in a PCIe slot and each USB-C port delivers the full 10Gbps Gen 2 rate, so the bus does not throttle the advertised throughput.
