Sonnet Technologies Echo III Desktop 3-slot Thunderbolt 3 PCIe expansion system

SKU CH-3A6M-S71Q2

A desktop enclosure connects three full-height PCIe 3.0 cards through a single thunderbolt cable and includes a 400 W supply with 75 W auxiliary power

  • Adds three PCIe 3.0 slots via Thunderbolt 3
  • Supports Pro Tools HDX cards with no extra parts
  • Fits three full-height single-width or one double-width card
  • 400 W power supply delivers 75 W auxiliary power
  • Powers on and off automatically with the connected computer

Three-slot Thunderbolt 3 expansion

The Sonnet Echo III Desktop connects up to three high-performance non-GPU PCIe cards to a computer that lacks internal expansion slots. It uses a Thunderbolt 3 cable to bridge the external chassis with the host system for professional workflows.

Pro Tools HDX and broad card support

The system replaces the need for internal PCIe slots by enabling HDX compatibility mode for up to three Pro Tools HDX cards without extra parts. The jump is worth it when a workstation or laptop has no free slots but requires multiple full-height single-width cards or one double-width plus one single-width card.

Sustained-load behaviour with 400W supply

A 400W integrated power supply delivers 75W auxiliary power and powers on or off automatically with the connected computer. Three PCIe 3.0 slots — one x16 and two x8 — maintain stable operation for continuous professional workloads rather than short bursts.

Questions about this item

What PCIe slot configuration does the Echo III Desktop provide for card installation?

The chassis supplies three PCIe 3.0 slots: one x16 and two x8, accepting three full-height single-width cards or one double-width plus one single-width card.

How do I connect the Echo III Desktop to my computer and what is the common setup mistake?

Use the included Thunderbolt 3 cable to link the enclosure to a Thunderbolt 3 port on the host; the step often missed is installing the PCIe cards and any required auxiliary power cables before powering on the unit.

What ongoing maintenance does the integrated 400W power supply with 75W auxiliary power require?

No scheduled maintenance is needed; the supply powers on and off automatically with the computer, and only a complete unit replacement would be necessary if it ever fails.
