Sony 55mm Front Lens Cap — what it is

The Sony ALC-F55S is a black front lens cap designed for 55mm filter threads. It shields the front element from dust, scratches and fingerprints when the camera is not in use. The cap carries the Sony α logo and is supplied new.

Installation and common issues

The cap presses onto the filter thread with a friction fit; no tools are required. Alignment is straightforward, but forcing it on cross-threaded can damage the lens barrel. Users occasionally lose the cap because it has no tether or retaining strap.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

Photographers using Sony lenses with a 55mm thread who need a direct replacement will find this cap a precise match. Buyers who want a centre-pinch design, a cap with a leash, or a cap for a different thread size should consider other options.
