A studio condenser microphone with dual-element capsules, three polar patterns and a 20 Hz to 50 kHz response for detailed vocal recording
The Sony C-100 is a dual-element capacitor microphone built for professional studio recording. It combines one condenser and one electret condenser capsule to capture high-resolution audio across a broad frequency range. Designed for vocalists and engineers who need intimate, detailed sound, it continues the legacy of the C800G released in 1992.
The microphone records audio from 20Hz to 50kHz, covering the full spectrum of vocal detail and air. Three switchable polar patterns — cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8 — provide flexibility for different miking techniques and sound sources. A 10dB pad switch and highpass filter are also included to manage levels and cut unwanted low frequencies.
The dual-element design maintains consistent detail and smooth, airy character during extended recording sessions. The highpass filter continuously removes low-frequency rumble that can build up over time, while the pad prevents overload on dynamic passages. This allows the C-100 to deliver stable, mix-ready vocals without fatigue or tonal shift across long takes.

It captures the full audible spectrum plus extended high-frequency detail, so vocals sound airy and natural without harshness.
XLR requires a preamp or interface with phantom power; cable length and preamp quality set the real-world noise floor.
At 3.66 kg it needs a sturdy boom arm or heavy-duty stand, and the body is large enough to require clear space around the capsule.
