Sony CRX880A combo drive

The Sony CRX880A is an internal slimline drive that combines CD-RW writing with DVD-ROM reading for Optiplex systems. It connects through an IDE interface and fits the narrow bays found in small-form-factor desktops. The unit is supplied new and ready for installation in compatible chassis.

24X CD write and 8X DVD read

CD recording reaches 24X while DVD playback tops out at 8X, giving enough speed for data backups and software discs. The drive handles standard CD-R and CD-RW media but cannot write to DVD formats. Buyers who need DVD recording or faster DVD read speeds should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 24X CD-RW speed work with my older IDE motherboard?

The drive uses a standard IDE interface and supports 24X CD-RW writing, so it will operate at that speed on any compatible IDE motherboard.

How can I verify the 8X DVD-ROM read speed is working after installation?

Insert a commercial DVD and check the drive properties or burning software; it should report an 8X maximum read rate for DVD media.
