42.4MP Full-Frame Compact Camera
The Sony DSCRX1RM2/B packs a 42.4-megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor into a pocketable body. A fixed Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens covers wide-angle to short-tele perspectives. Fast Hybrid AF with 399 phase-detect points locks onto subjects quickly for street, travel and documentary work.
Fixed 35mm Lens and Aperture Range
The non-interchangeable 35mm focal length delivers a classic field of view with an f/2 to f/22 aperture range for depth-of-field control. Digital zoom extends reach to approximately 4x at 42MP, 6.2x at 18MP and 8x at 11MP for stills. Shutter speeds run from 30 seconds to 1/4000 second, though the fastest 1/4000 setting requires f/5.6 or smaller apertures.
Variable Optical Low-Pass Filter
A built-in variable optical low-pass filter lets you tune moiré suppression per scene, a feature uncommon in compacts. Continuous shooting tops out at 5 frames per second with autofocus tracking. Minimum focus distance is 24 centimetres, limiting close-up work. Buyers needing interchangeable lenses, longer optical zoom or macro capability should consider other systems.
