Compact zoom lens for APS-C E-mount

This Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens is designed for APS-C E-mount cameras. Its power-zoom mechanism and retractable barrel collapse the lens to a minimal profile, making it suited to travel and everyday carry where space and weight are limited.

Verify mount and sensor format

Confirm your camera uses the Sony E mount and that you are comfortable with an APS-C image circle. The variable maximum aperture of f/3.5-5.6 reduces light gathering at the long end, so consider whether your shooting style needs a constant aperture or wider maximum aperture.

Built-in stabilisation and power zoom

Optical SteadyShot helps reduce blur from camera shake during handheld stills and video. The internal power-zoom motor enables smooth focal-length transitions for video work, while the retracting design locks the lens compactly when the camera is powered off.

Questions about this item

Does the box include a lens hood and filters, or do I buy them separately?

The lens ships with front and rear caps; a petal-type hood and screw-on filters are sold separately.

Should I pick the 16-50 mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS or a constant-aperture zoom for low light?

Choose this power-zoom when you want a retractable 16-50 mm range; switch to a constant f/4 zoom if you need the same brightness at 50 mm.

What does the f/3.5-5.6 range mean when I zoom from 16 mm to 50 mm on an APS-C body?

At 16 mm the aperture opens to f/3.5; at 50 mm it narrows to f/5.6, so shutter speed must drop or ISO rise as you zoom in.
