Rackmount 48-port managed switch for SMB networks

The Sophos CS110-48FP is a 1U rackmount managed switch designed for branch offices, retail sites and small-to-medium businesses. It provides forty-eight RJ45 ports and four SFP uplink ports in a single appliance. Unified configuration through Sophos Central simplifies deployment across distributed locations. Active Threat Response can isolate compromised hosts directly from the switch.

IEEE 802.3af/at PoE budget and uplink speed limits

The switch delivers a 740 W PoE budget compliant with IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at, supporting up to forty-eight devices at 15.4 W or twenty-four devices at 30 W. All forty-eight RJ45 ports negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbps while the four SFP+ uplinks operate at 10 Gbps. VLAN capacity allows two hundred and fifty-six active VLANs simultaneously from a 4096 ID pool. The external DC adapter accepts 100-240 VAC input.

Three fans and front-to-rear airflow in a 1U chassis

Three internal fans cool the unit within a 310 mm deep, 44 mm high rackmount enclosure weighing 4.85 kg. Front-facing RJ45 and SFP+ ports keep patch cables accessible while the rear-mounted power connector and on/off switch separate mains wiring from data cabling. Typical idle draw is 32 W rising to 885 W under full PoE load. Module slots accept 1G or 10G transceivers and DAC cables up to 5 m.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the CS110-48FP over a non-PoE model for powering access points and phones?

The CS110-48FP delivers a 740 W PoE budget across all 48 RJ45 ports, supporting up to 48 devices at 15.4 W or 24 devices at 30 W each, so you can power access points and phones without separate injectors.

What does the 10 Gbps uplink speed mean for my backbone traffic?

The four SFP+ ports run at 10 Gbps each, giving an aggregate 40 Gbps uplink capacity that keeps backbone traffic from bottlenecking the 48 gigabit access ports.

Which IEEE standards govern the PoE and link aggregation on this switch?

PoE follows 802.3af and 802.3at for 15.4 W and 30 W per port, while link aggregation uses 802.3ad and 802.1AX to combine multiple physical links into a single logical trunk.
